Taco Bell Drive-Thru Diet – Can You Really Lose Weight?

by Ashley

Obviously, losing weight will be topmost among New Year resolutions in 2010. Therefore, there will never be a shortage of weight loss products to take advantage of the trend. Now, Taco Bell is promoting its ‘Drive-Thru’ diet.  Taco Bell’s “fresco” menu is not a weight-loss program or diet, per se, but the seven fresco items each have fewer than 9 grams of fat and have from 20 to 100 calories fewer than similar items elsewhere on the menu. The restaurant lowers the fat content by replacing cheese and sauce with a salsa of tomatoes, white onions and cilantro.

The problem is, it can be viewed as a temporary fix to something that requires a long-term solution. As mentioned in the cookie diet post, restricting diets like this can provide fast success, but often leave you for worse in the long-term. Because, your metabolism decreases and then you reach a ‘diet plateau’. Once you regress and go back to your old habits, those pounds come back on.

What’s a sustainable solution? Eating better – more fruits and vegetables, and low-fat items on your menu. In addition, exercising 30 minutes a day would be helpful.

the “Drive-Thru Diet” campaign is kicking off with a new face, Christine Dougherty, the new belle of Taco Bell. She says she lost 54 pounds by eating from the fresco menu. (It also took her two years to lose the weight, and she says she made other sensible choices during that time, including limiting her daily calories to 1,250.)
